3 PR Tips to Help you Build for the Future
Yes, focusing on today is important, but focusing ONLY on today without any thought for the future will not only damage your present, it can keep you from achieving success down the line. But, what does “focusing on tomorrow” actually look like? It’s one thing to “think about it”, but what can you do today to prepare for the future? Ronn Torossian, CEO of 5WPR, offers 3 tips to answer this question.
Build Relationships with Opinion Makers
Public relations is about nurturing the right relationships. If you want good press, then you need to nurture good relationships with the people who control the presses. Sometimes, the difference between getting scrapped and getting published is having a reporter or editor on your side. That’s not to say that your content doesn’t matter, but the media is a lot less apt to help you get your message out if they don’t know or trust you.
Plan and Manage your Message
Haphazard messages create confusion and lead to disjointed public perception. How can you expect your customers or prospects to understand where you are coming from if the message keeps changing? Here’s a test: can everyone in your office explain, in two sentences or less, what your brand is and what you stand for? If not, that failure lands squarely on the leadership.
When discussing the future of your brand, chances are you will have a good idea and a plan. Likely a better idea than you really want to share. Expert communicators know that leaving something unsaid, but hinting that there might be more, is a great way to keep curiosity alive and keep people asking questions. In positive situations, this can be a tremendous way to keep the buzz going.
Consider applying these tips to your public relations plans, and you will set yourself up for success today and well into the future.
