Data Segmentation and SEO

It’s not always easy to find value in a lot of data, which is why one of the essential elements of successful SEO strategies is recognizing patterns.

Although this can seem daunting, most issues regarding the amount of data that most companies have can easily be solved through data segmentation.

Companies should shift their focus towards generating insights that are based on patterns they’re able to recognize, and then they should rely on those same patterns to implement beneficial SEO strategies.

Companies can use two different data segmentation strategies: either segmentations post-crawl, or custom scraping. One of the best ways for companies to segment data is through traffic and crawl information, as both of those elements allow businesses to triangulate data from a website to identify certain customer patterns.

Traffic and Content Quality

One of the biggest factors that contributes to SEO and readability for companies is the quality of the content on the business website.

However, it’s not always easy to measure the impact that content quality has on rankings and website traffic. One of the ways that companies can segment data based on those two elements is through word count.

While most companies tend to see word count as a metric that’s not too relevant, it’s still a good way for businesses to measure how different pieces of content compare. While word count by itself isn’t a good indicator of the quality of a page by itself, when used in comparison to multiple pages, it can show how each one is performing against others.

Credibility and Consistency

Bigger companies can benefit from having blogs with multiple contributors, and tracking their content and activity is a good way for those companies to get more insights that can benefit their SEO efforts.

The two methods for segmenting that data are tracking the number of times a contributor publishes content on the blog, and by measuring credibility they have with consumers or readers of the blog.

Collecting and segmenting this data allows companies to get a better idea of how well different pieces of content, as well as contributors, are performing, and gives companies an overview of the time that people spend visiting their website.

Internal Linking

One of the best ways that companies can generate more website visitors is through internal linking. Internal links show both readers and search engines that there’s more relevant and important information than just a single piece of content.

Additionally, companies that are having trouble with SEO can benefit from internal linking and data segmentation. The pieces of content that have the highest interaction numbers through comments, click actions, or other types of activity, should have the largest number of internal links. This way, companies can show the readers and visitors that the content is cohesive, and generate a better user experience for the business website.
