Reassuring Consumers: United Airlines
The major American airline, United Airlines, has come under fire recently, after undergoing a few safety-related situations. The first one happened in December 2022, when a United Airlines flight was leaving Kahului Airport on its way to San Francisco. After the plane took off, it made a very sudden steep dive and came about 775 feet above the surface of the water. The other one came after the Federal Aviation Administration proposed a fine for United Airlines. The fine was because of the way that the airline company removed one important safety measure. There are a few ways to repair the damage done by this United Airlines news.
The Events
Back in December 2022, United Airlines flight 1722 ended up 775 feet above the water surface shortly after taking off. The plane was above the Pacific Ocean, took off from the airport, and reached about 2200 feet, before diving down. According to investigations, there was no reason why the plane did that, and the crew reported the incident on its own. After diving down, the plane soon started recovering altitude and safely arrived in San Francisco. A spokesperson for United Airlines stated that the pilots on the plane had a combined 25,000 hours of experience in flying. They were also cooperating with the subsequent investigation into what happened. Then, at the beginning of February 2023, the Federal Aviation Administration proposed a $1.15 million fine for safety concerns regarding United Airlines. The reason behind the fine was that the airline company removed a very important safety measure from the list of actions that flight crew have to do before taking off. That action was checking the plane’s fire warning system, and the airline hadn’t made any checks between June 2018 and April 2021. According to United Airlines, this change was approved by the FAA, and that a computer automatically performed those checks.
Safety Measures
These two events have ended up damaging the reputation and public perception of United Airlines’ safety record. To regain trust, United must adopt a policy of transparency when dealing with safety concerns, and take responsibility for any issues that arise. The airline should also provide factual information to clear up any misunderstandings and provide extra support and solutions – such as refunds or exchanges – to anyone affected. This demonstrates the airline’s commitment to customer safety and can help restore public trust in their services.
